PSA Competitions - Photo Travel

TESTING GALLERY

PSA Photo Travel 2017-2018

This is the third year that our club will compete in the Photographic Society of America’s (PSA) interclub competition in the Photo Travel division.

We will continue the approach we used last year in selecting images to be entered. Members are asked to submit up to 3 images for consideration for each of three Rounds. From this group of images, a committee of 5 members will select 6 images representing 6 different members to enter into each competition round.

It is time to send in 3 images for consideration for Round 1.

Details:

Submit up to 3 images no later than midnight on Wednesday, October 18th.

Images must be jpeg, sRGB, 1024 x 768, with a maximum file size of 1.5MB. (Note the image size is different than our club’s criteria.)

Rename the file as follows: Your First Name Last Name_Title.jpg. (For example: John Smith_Cape Cod Light.jpg)

Attach the images to an email and send them to ccvfphototravel@gmail.com. It is important to understand PSA’s definition of Photo Travel and its restrictions

on what processing is allowed and not allowed:

• A Photo Travel image expresses the characteristic features or culture of a land as they are found naturally. There are no geographic limitations.

• Images from events or activities arranged specifically for photography, or of subjects directed or hired for photography, are not appropriate.

• Close-up pictures of people or objects must include features that provide information about the environment.

• Techniques that add, relocate, replace or remove any element of the original image, except by cropping, are not permitted. The only allowable adjustments are removal of dust or digital noise, restoration of the appearance of the original scene, and complete conversion to greyscale monochrome. Other derivations, including infrared, are not permitted. All allowable adjustments must appear natural.

• Photo Travel is intended to reflect the world as it is found, rather than staged specifically to produce pretty pictures. When individuals are directed (and frequently compensated) by photographers or agents to dress and act in artificial ways, this contributes to the distortion of traditional cultures and their way of life.page1image20248 page1image20408 page1image20568 page1image20728

• Because it is not always obvious whether a scene has been arranged or not, this statement is intended primarily as a guide to ethical behavior.

Do keep in mind that there are no geographical limitations. Remember that many people come from far and wide to photograph the beautiful light of Cape Cod. They consider those shots to be Photo Travel images and so should we!

In a prior year we had a winning image of Nobska Light!

The images that our club submitted last year can be viewed below. All the award-winning images from the last several years can be viewed on PSA’s website at http://www.psa-photo.org/index.php?divisions-photo-travel-interclub- competition.

PSA Photo Travel 2015-2016

Playoff Round:

Very Exciting News!!!

We won!  Our club took first place in the “playoff” against the 5 other top scoring clubs in the PSA Photo Travel Inter-club competition.  On top of that, Nancy Bray won 1st Place out of the 48 competing images for her picture “Yosemite Stairway”!!!

This was a team effort throughout the year from start to finish.  During the year, 23 club members submitted 109 images for consideration for the three competitions held in November, February and May.  From these excellent images, the committee had a difficult choice in selecting 6 images for each Competition Round, for a total of 18 images.

At the end of Round 3, our club was tied for 2nd Place in Group A.  The top 3 clubs from Groups A and B then were invited to participate in a divisional championship “playoff” to determine the Travel Division Inter-club Champion for 2016.    The committee then selected 8 images to enter into the “playoff”.  Success!  We won!

Thanks to the 23 club members who participated: Nancy Bray, Jody Brickman, Toni Caputo, David Constance, Paul Davis, Carol Dobek, Judith Gardner, Marcia Geier, Paul Goetinck, Ross Gorman, Joe Hintz, John Markus, Debbie Owen, Diane Robertson, Jon Rolf, Peter Selig, Bob Slott, Sue Slott, Ron Snider, Sue Swartzlander, Jim Walczak, John Ward, and Stanlee Wetzel.  This would not have happened without you!

Special thanks to the committee members who painstakingly and thoughtfully reviewed and discussed each image submitted by the members.  Their dedication and resolve and willingness to work together as a team were unsurpassed.  Thank you Janet DiMattia, Judith Gardner, Jim Mills, and Ron Snider!
